With a long and successful history spanning 30 years, the Willetton Senior High School Specialist Basketball Program has proven itself to be the best in the state with positions being highly sought after and entry competitive.
The program has been instrumental in fostering basketball opportunities for talented players and but developing positive and respected role models in the community.
Our mission is to equip students with the necessary skills to become highly valued contributors in any basketball program and attributes to evolve into successful and respected community members. Leadership, resilience, goal setting, mindfulness, team work, communication and a high work ethic are the attributes that students are encouraged and supported to develop.
Many of our students have achieved personal success through their time in the Basketball Program. Luke Travers and Rhys Vague are currently playing with the Perth Wildcats and Daniel Johnson is with the Adelaide 36ers in the NBL. Emily Counsel is a member of the Perth Lynx alongside Hayley Winter in the WNBL. We also have 20 State team representatives, 26 State Performance Program athletes, 13 Future Development Program athletes, one NBA Academy athlete, one Australian Development athlete, 13 Southern Cross Challenge athletes and numerous SBL athletes and students at college in the USA. In 2019, we also had Luke Jackson selected as #3 in the AFL draft to the Melbourne Demons after representing Australia at the U/17 Basketball World Cup in Argentina.
Other career paths can also be pursued and are promoted such as coaching, refereeing and administration.
The school’s gymnasium has been equipped with a large screen and camera technology, to support student learning, alongside the use of class Ipads for peer teaching and learning. The addition of the new Dr Dish shooting machine has also enhanced the ability for our students to develop their shooting technique and consistency.
Applications for the Specialised Basketball 2021 Program are now open.
